Dealing with Doubt (A Benediction)

When did doubt first creep into your mind? Doubt about yourself. Doubt about whether the right man was out there? Whether you could have all you dreamed of having? At what point did your childhood hopes get extinguished?

Was it when you were told to grow up? Did growing up somehow mean giving up? Giving up the very things that inspired you with the spark of joy, passion and excitement?

Or perhaps it was failure that took the wind from your sails. That made you abandon believing in you. That made you choose a new set of beliefs: that things don’t always work out in the end. Yet what wondrous thing in your life, what soul-brightening success ever came without failure? The elation of our first steps as a toddler, the easy breeze flying through our hair when the adult’s hand first lets go of the back of our bicycle seat, the moment onstage accepting diplomas, promotions, first kisses and even our own child smiling at us are preceded by the falling on our face, the wobbly bicycle, scraped knees, a low grade on a test, unappreciative bosses and tears when that first crush didn’t like you back.

Nothing worthwhile is won without effort.

So don’t give up.

Don’t give in to fear. To doubt. To not feeling good enough. Not feeling the Universe is a safe, benevolent place that cups it’s hands beneath you so you have somwhere to fall as you progress towards success — towards love.

Because what you are doing when you meet that guy who isn’t quite right for you is NOT failing. What you are doing is living. And growing. Growing up in the way the universe always wished and dreamed of for YOU. Growing up in spirit, in love, and into being ever-increasingly, unapologetically YOU.

Life is a learning process. Love is its lesson.

Are you willing to stop avoiding what your mind calls failure, to let go of labeling things as disappointment and see them as steps on a staircase leading you somewhere beautiful and new?

If the answer is yes, there is no more doubt. You have learned the lesson of how to live in love.

Much Love,
Barry
